Youth-Led Heritage Projects Receive Support with New NHB Grant

Encouraging young people to lead heritage initiatives with funding and mentorship opportunities.

A new initiative launched on Nov 14, 2024, by the National Heritage Board (NHB) and the National Youth Council (NYC) offers financial support for young people keen to lead heritage projects. The Young ChangeMakers – Youth Heritage Kickstarter Fund is open to individuals aged 15 to 35, aiming to foster youth involvement in heritage programs and enhance Singapore’s heritage landscape.

Grant Details and Support
The fund supports a wide range of projects, such as exhibitions, workshops, and outdoor installations. Grants cover up to 80% of project costs, with a cap of $7,000 per project. Successful applicants are also expected to raise the remaining 20% of their costs, promoting a sense of ownership and commitment to their projects.

Applicants will be mentored and supported by NHB and NYC, helping them navigate the process from conceptualization to execution. The initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage youth to actively contribute to the future of Singapore’s heritage scene, providing the tools and resources needed to bring ideas to life.

The fund was developed based on a survey conducted by NHB, revealing that many young people are eager to volunteer at heritage events and create their own heritage projects. Mentorship and funding were identified as key needs to help turn these aspirations into reality.
