Young Scientists Seek Guidance from Industry Leaders to Take Research to the Real World

The Future Science Forum provides a platform for young researchers to connect with experts and expand their scientific endeavors.

On 05/11/2024, the Future Science Forum, held at COM3@Imagination Ridge on the National University of Singapore (NUS) campus, brought together young scientists from diverse fields, including data science, immunology, and cell-material sciences. These researchers, awarded the Asian Young Scientist Fellowship in 2023 and 2024, gathered to gain insights from experts on how to transition their lab-based work into real-world applications.

The forum, titled From Scientific Innovation to Future Technologies, was co-organized by NUS and The Future Science, a non-profit organization focused on advancing science through philanthropy. Richard Liu, founding partner of 5Y Capital and director of The Future Science, emphasized Singapore’s strategic role in fostering global scientific collaboration and innovation.

Dr. Wu Wei, a recent fellow from Hong Kong, expressed excitement over the cross-domain research discussions, particularly around immunotherapy for cancer treatment. Meanwhile, Dr. Liu Ziwei, a fellow from Singapore, highlighted the forum’s potential for creating collaborations across scientific disciplines for societal betterment.

The Asian Young Scientist Fellowship, launched in 2023, provides US$100,000 (S$133,000) to support the fellows’ research over two years. The forum also featured speakers like Dr. Daishi Fujita from Kyoto University and Dr. Reza Shokri from NUS, who presented their cutting-edge work in protein protection and AI-driven data privacy, respectively.

The event not only fostered networking but also encouraged future collaborations, reinforcing the fellows’ role in pushing boundaries in their respective fields.
