SkillsFuture Singapore aims to enhance the quality of training courses by implementing new standards for providers and courses.
SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) is introducing stricter measures to raise the quality of training courses, beginning with a new approach for courses with low ratings. Under these changes, courses that fail to meet certain standards will face suspension for up to three months. During this period, training providers will be required to improve their courses before they can be re-listed in the SkillsFuture directory.
Starting January 1, 2025, courses that are due for renewal must meet updated criteria, including achieving at least a 75% attendance rate and continuing to align with industry needs. By June 2026, courses must secure a 75% response rate on feedback surveys and maintain quality ratings that place them above the lowest quality category.
The changes are part of a broader strategy to ensure that the more than 29,000 SkillsFuture courses, provided by over 600 training institutions, meet high standards of education. This initiative follows the assessment of over 170 training providers, with some already being removed from the list due to poor quality.
Despite the positive reactions from many providers who believe the changes will improve transparency and quality, experts caution against overly stringent measures that could unintentionally harm providers or discourage course participation. Some providers suggest a more flexible approach, such as mid-way reviews during the improvement period, to ensure a fair process for all.
