From Fan to Viral Sensation
At Ne-Yo’s 2023 Singapore concert, Ms. Syarafana dreamed of being on stage. One year later, she turned that dream into reality, performing at Ne-Yo’s sold-out Champagne & Roses tour.
Dressed in a burgundy and black outfit matching the event’s theme, she wowed the crowd during a contest for fans. Selected as the last contestant, Ms. Syarafana danced to Ne-Yo’s 2018 hit Push Back, impressing both the audience and the star. Netizens humorously declared, “So nice of Ne-Yo to attend her concert.”
A Nurse with Rhythm
Currently balancing her work at Changi General Hospital and her nursing diploma studies at ITE College East, Ms. Syarafana’s dance journey started in her K-pop-inspired co-curricular activity during her ITE days.
Though she hadn’t danced regularly in years, her TikTok performances helped her stay connected to the art. “I was nervous during the pre-selection, but I thought, ‘YOLO – when will I get this chance again?’” she shared.
A Night to Remember
Ms. Syarafana’s confidence on stage earned her Ne-Yo’s iconic red fedora and the chance to perform an encore. She described the singer as respectful and charming, adding, “He smelled expensive – like really good cologne!”
Since her performance, videos of her dancing have garnered love online. “I didn’t mean to steal his spotlight; I was just so in the zone,” she said. Her classmates celebrated her viral fame, cheering her on and replaying her standout moment.
For Ms. Syarafana, it was more than a dance – it was a dream come true. “On stage, it was just me and Ne-Yo,” she said with a smile.
