Singapore and South Korea Reaffirm Longstanding Ties, Discuss Expanding Collaborations

Discussions focus on innovation, AI, education, and strengthening future bilateral relations.

Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister, Heng Swee Keat, reaffirmed the strong and long-standing relationship between Singapore and South Korea during his working visit to Seoul on Nov 19, 2024. Mr. Heng met with his South Korean counterpart, Dr. Lee Ju-ho, to discuss expanding collaborations on various fronts, including science, research, and education.

The leaders focused on fostering partnerships between universities and research institutes to drive innovation, economic growth, and enterprise outcomes. They also highlighted the potential for collaboration in artificial intelligence and educational technologies to enhance learning experiences for students and teachers.

Both Mr. Heng and Dr. Lee expressed their commitment to elevating the bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership by 2025, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

During his visit, Mr. Heng, who is also the chairman of Singapore’s National Research Foundation, visited Seoul and Gyeonggi province, engaging in discussions on innovation hubs and collaborative opportunities between Singaporean and South Korean companies.
