Singapore Airlines Announces $1.1 Billion A350 Fleet Upgrade

Long-haul Airbus A350 aircraft to feature next-generation cabin designs by 2026.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has unveiled a $1.1 billion initiative to retrofit its Airbus A350-900 fleet, aiming to enhance passenger comfort across all cabin classes. The upgrades will be conducted by SIA Engineering Company and are set to be completed by 2030.

The retrofit program will introduce new business, premium economy, and economy class interiors, as well as first-class seats on SIA’s ultra-long-range (ULR) A350 variants. The first retrofitted long-haul A350-900 is expected to enter service by mid-2026, with ULR upgrades debuting in early 2027.

Post-upgrade, the A350-900 long-haul aircraft will feature 42 business class seats, 24 premium economy seats, and 192 economy seats. ULR variants will include four first-class suites, 70 business class seats, and 58 premium economy seats, enhancing SIA’s premium offerings on its longest routes.

SIA’s new business and first-class seats promise ergonomic designs and private layouts, with some configurations enabling enhanced companion travel. The retrofitted planes will also feature an updated KrisWorld entertainment system, offering personalized options and expanded lifestyle content.

The retrofit will progress incrementally, ensuring minimal operational disruption. “The Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ULR aircraft remain integral to our long-term strategy,” said an SIA spokesperson. “These upgrades reflect our commitment to elevating the premium travel experience.”
