On November 21, 2024, a fatal accident occurred in Kaki Bukit involving an SBS Transit bus, resulting in the death of the 58-year-old driver. The incident took place at the junction of Kaki Bukit Avenue 2 and Kaki Bukit Road 1 around 11 p.m. when the bus, believed to have skidded, crashed. The driver was unconscious when taken to Changi General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Five male passengers, aged between 26 and 38, were also injured and were transported to the hospital. SBS Transit confirmed the bus was on its service 137 route at the time of the accident. The company expressed condolences, noting that the driver was known for being “very good and helpful.” SBS Transit has been in contact with the affected passengers and their families, offering support.
A photograph of the accident site showed the bus’s front smashed against a tree. Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
This incident follows ongoing discussions on the safety of public buses in Singapore. Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat had earlier announced the formation of a task force, led by Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai, to examine bus safety in response to several recent accidents. The task force aims to complete its review by early 2025.
