Search-and-rescue unit successfully evacuates crewman from 111km off the coast.
On November 9, 2024, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) successfully airlifted a crew member from a bulk carrier located 111 kilometers off Singapore’s coast. The operation was carried out by RSAF’s Rescue 10 unit, which was activated at 5:30 pm to evacuate the crewman in urgent need of medical attention.
Successful Airlift Operation
The crew member, who was in critical condition, was transported to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) via an H225M helicopter. The Rescue 10 medical team monitored the patient’s vital signs throughout the flight. Upon arrival at SGH, the crewman was stable and conscious, and he was promptly handed over to medical staff for further treatment.
Rescue 10’s Ongoing Readiness
This marked the seventh successful activation for Rescue 10 in 2024. The team, comprising medical personnel, air crew, and ground crew, is on standby 24/7 for such life-saving missions. The RSAF reaffirmed its commitment to providing rapid assistance in critical situations.
In a notable earlier operation in July 2024, Rescue 10 helped airlift two crew members after a collision between two ships near Pedra Branca resulted in fires onboard.
