Robots Bring Innovation to Bird Paradise for Meal Delivery and Visitor Assistance

Mandai Wildlife Group introduces a trio of autonomous robots to enhance park operations and guest experiences.

At Bird Paradise, part of Mandai Wildlife Reserve, the introduction of a self-driving delivery robot is set to change the way animal care is managed. The robot, designed for all-terrain use, will carry food to designated spots near the birds’ enclosures, alleviating the workload of park staff who typically spend significant time transporting feed across the 17-hectare site.

The trial, which is set to run through the first quarter of 2025, also includes a concierge robot, designed to assist visitors by offering information on park activities, directions, and prices. Additionally, a surveillance robot will conduct safety patrols, helping security officers monitor the park’s grounds more efficiently. The robots were unveiled on November 19, 2024, in collaboration with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), marking a significant step towards enhancing both animal care and guest services.

The delivery robot, named Pika, is capable of carrying up to 250kg, traversing slopes, curbs, and wet terrain, and will save around 1,200 man-hours annually. Visitors will soon be able to interact with the AI-powered concierge robot, which can guide them to facilities and provide live weather updates.

Dash-er, the surveillance robot, will assist security by patrolling areas and providing real-time monitoring. The trial is part of an effort to implement autonomous technologies to improve efficiency in various sectors, including wildlife conservation and tourism.
