The $6.8 billion expansion aims to elevate Singapore’s tourism offerings with new attractions, hotels, and sustainability initiatives.
Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is undergoing a $6.8 billion transformation, set to be completed by 2030, which will enhance its appeal amidst growing global competition. The development includes two luxury hotels adding 700 rooms to RWS’s existing portfolio of six, bringing more accommodation options to visitors. The complex will be expanded by about 50%, with over 164,000 square meters of new space.
A key feature of the new development will be an 88-meter-high experiential mountain trail, designed for visitors to enjoy scenic views across Sentosa and beyond. This trail, part of a new waterfront promenade, will be complemented by a striking light sculpture, designed by London’s Heatherwick Studio, which will offer nightly light shows.
In addition to the new hotels and attractions, the RWS expansion will focus on sustainability. The project aims for Green Mark Platinum certification, using low-carbon concrete to reduce emissions by 29,500 tonnes. This reflects RWS’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while adding high-end tourism experiences.
The expansion also includes a vast range of new attractions, such as the Singapore Oceanarium, three times the size of the current S.E.A. Aquarium, set to open in 2025. RWS’s aim is to bolster Singapore’s position as a leading destination for both leisure and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) tourism.
