President Tharman Congratulates Vietnam’s Newly Elected President Luong Cuong

Singapore’s President expresses hope for strengthened ties and collaboration under Vietnam’s new leadership.

On October 25, 2024, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam extended his congratulations to Mr. Luong Cuong, Vietnam’s newly elected president, following his appointment on October 21. In his letter, Mr. Tharman expressed his optimism about continuing to build on the strong bilateral cooperation and mutual trust between the two nations.

Highlighting the significant milestones in Singapore-Vietnam relations, President Tharman mentioned the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership in 2023. He noted the expanding collaboration between the countries in sectors such as trade, security, education, and human resources. Furthermore, he pointed out the growing cooperation in emerging areas like green energy, carbon credits, and the digital economy.

President Tharman looks forward to working with Mr. Cuong to further enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between Singapore and Vietnam.
