Details of the Operation
On 8 November, an enforcement operation in Joo Chiat led to the arrest of 15 individuals, aged between 19 and 63, for a range of offences, the Singapore Police announced on 13 November. The arrests included:
Illegal employment: Working without a valid work permit.
Traffic violations: Suspected drink driving, driving without a valid licence, and driving without insurance.
Drug-related offences: Consumption and possession of controlled drugs.
Weapons possession: Carrying scheduled weapons.
Additional Violations
Another 11 men, aged 29 to 62, are under investigation for:
Possession of e-vaporisers.
Breaches of the Fire Safety Act.
Violations of food hygiene regulations.
Multi-Agency Effort
The operation was spearheaded by the Bedok Police Division with support from:
Traffic Police and K-9 units.
Agencies including the Central Narcotics Bureau, Health Sciences Authority, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, Singapore Civil Defence Force, and Singapore Food Agency.
Public Entertainment Outlets Under Scrutiny
Two outlets are being investigated for violating public entertainment licensing conditions.
Despite improvements in law and order, Joo Chiat remains a focal point for such enforcement efforts due to its high concentration of public entertainment venues. Police emphasized their commitment to regular operations to maintain safety and compliance.
