Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong expresses condolences over the passing of Li Keqiang and reflects on their strong bilateral ties
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore has conveyed his condolences to Chinese Premier Li Qiang following the death of former Premier Li Keqiang. Li Keqiang, aged 68, passed away due to a heart attack on October 27, 2024, less than a year after retiring from a decade in office.
In his letter, PM Lee commended Mr Li Keqiang as a dedicated statesman who led China through significant reforms and economic growth, improving the lives of millions. PM Lee shared his personal memories of first meeting Li Keqiang in 2005 and working together to strengthen Singapore-China relations. He recalled Li’s 2018 visit to Singapore and highlighted key bilateral milestones during his tenure, such as the establishment of strategic initiatives and the upgraded China-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.
PM Lee also acknowledged Li Keqiang’s contributions to strengthening ASEAN-China cooperation, including his role in regional partnerships and agreements like the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
