Celebrating four decades of leadership and contribution

At the People’s Action Party (PAP) awards on November 23, 2024, around 3,000 party members and guests gathered to honor Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who is stepping down as PAP Secretary-General after over two decades of service.

Party Chairman Heng Swee Keat praised SM Lee’s remarkable leadership, noting that under his guidance, Singapore navigated challenges like the global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. DPM Heng highlighted Lee’s pivotal role in transforming Singapore into a smart nation and strengthening its position globally.

A video tribute shared heartfelt stories, with past and present MPs recalling SM Lee’s dedication and personal kindness, including his encouragement to former MP S. Vasoo during difficult times. A special gift, a watercolor painting capturing SM Lee interacting with Singaporeans, was presented by DPM Heng.

SM Lee expressed his gratitude to the party, noting that his achievements were made possible through the support of PAP members. The event also marked the party’s 70th anniversary and included the recognition of 448 activists for their contributions to various social causes.

The highest honor of the evening, the Meritorious Service Star Medal, was awarded to former Tanjong Pagar MP S. Vasoo for his long-standing dedication to community service.
