Singapore is advancing toward its goal of 60,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points by 2030, with a significant increase in installations.
As of September 2024, Singapore has installed over 15,300 electric vehicle (EV) charging points, which accounts for more than a quarter of its target of 60,000 by 2030. This marks an increase of 1,500 new charging stations from August 2024. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has reported that approximately 7,100 of these charging points are publicly accessible, with the remainder located in private spaces like condominiums.
While the majority of public charging stations are slow chargers designed for overnight use, LTA is also focusing on fast-charging infrastructure. These fast chargers can charge a typical EV battery from 20% to 80% in about an hour, in contrast to several hours for slower options. The first batch of new public fast chargers was launched at the Woodlands Civic Centre on November 4, 2024. By March 2025, additional fast chargers will be installed at eight Housing Board-owned commercial car parks.
The fast-charging rollout is part of a larger plan to deploy 120 fast chargers across 60 carparks in commercial buildings, HDB town centres, and industrial sites by the end of 2025. These initiatives aim to meet the needs of high-mileage EV drivers, including taxi and private-hire drivers, as well as light goods vehicle operators.
With an increasing rate of EV adoption—one in three new cars registered in Singapore in 2024 were EVs—there is a continued push to improve charging infrastructure. Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Transport, emphasized the importance of good charging habits, and the LTA has introduced an EV guide offering best practices for charging etiquette.
