Muis to Issue Advisory for Muslims on Handling Overseas Conflicts

The advisory aims to provide guidance on how to manage emotional and spiritual responses to conflicts like the Israel-Hamas war.

SINGAPORE – In response to global conflicts like the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) is preparing an advisory to guide Muslims in Singapore on how to manage their responses to such events. The advisory, being developed by the Office of the Mufti, will help the community process information and gain a better understanding of Islamic teachings regarding such conflicts.

The advisory aims to encourage Muslims to reflect on the impact of these conflicts on their religiosity, emphasizing a constructive and positive approach. Mufti Nazirudin Mohd Nasir stated that the goal is for Muslims to deal with these events in a manner that upholds the values of wisdom and peace. The document will draw on the Quran and prophetic traditions to offer clarity on the correct approach to managing emotions related to these crises.

The announcement comes after the Religious Leadership Forum 2023, which was held on Nov 2, 2023, at the Royal Plaza on Scotts. The forum, attended by about 120 local religious teachers (asatizah), was organized by Muis, Pergas, the Religious Rehabilitation Group (RRG), and the Asatizah Youth Network. The event focused on offering guidance on how religious organizations in Singapore can support the Muslim community in navigating the complexities of the Middle East conflict.

The forum also addressed the emotional challenges faced by individuals due to the crisis and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and understanding in diverse societies. Religious leaders encouraged Muslims to engage in humanitarian efforts and pray for peace and resolution, while ensuring that peaceful coexistence is fostered.
