More Nests and Fledglings Removed on Orchard Road After Crow Attacks

NParks intensifies efforts to control aggressive crow behavior following public safety concerns

Following recent attacks by at least two crows outside Orchard Central, the National Parks Board (NParks) has continued its efforts to remove nests and young birds in the area. The crows had been swooping down on pedestrians and pecking them, leading to a response from NParks on the same day.

During a visit by The Straits Times, NParks officers set up barriers and placed a warning sign after five men were attacked by the birds. The crows were observed eating and fluttering around the tree where they roosted. NParks removed two young crows and several nests, continuing to monitor the situation.

Despite their efforts, the two crows suspected of the attacks remain at large. NParks has advised the building management of Orchard Central to take further protective measures. The crows involved are part of an invasive species from South Asia, and authorities have employed various methods to manage their population, including nest removal, food source elimination, and trapping.

There has been public concern regarding the trapping of the birds. One woman described the actions as “inhumane,” suggesting the crows were only protecting their young. However, NParks emphasized the need for these measures to ensure public safety. Previously, culling measures have been implemented in other areas, such as Bishan, after similar incidents.
