Mid-Career SkillsFuture Programme for Environmental Services Industry to Launch in April 2025

New initiative aims to attract mid-career professionals to the growing environmental services sector with relevant skills training.

Starting in April 2025, a new SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme will provide mid-career workers with the opportunity to gain skills in the environmental services sector. The full-time, three-month course, offered by Temasek Polytechnic (TP) in partnership with the Environmental Management Association of Singapore and the National Environment Agency (NEA), will focus on key areas such as robotics, automation, and outcome-based contracting for cleaning services.

The programme, which can be offset using SkillsFuture credits, aims to support the growth of the environmental services industry by equipping participants with essential skills to succeed in this rapidly evolving sector. Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat announced the initiative during the Clean and Green Singapore Day event at the National University of Singapore (NUS) on November 3, 2024.

As part of the event, DPM Heng also recognized individuals who have contributed significantly to the industry, awarding the Environmental Services Star Award to 27 recipients. Among them was Mr Noor Azmi Ranai, a senior operations manager with CBM, a facilities management company. He emphasized the value of the environmental services industry and its crucial role in shaping society.

In addition to the programme announcement, DPM Heng provided updates on the $300 e-vouchers for eco-friendly appliances, with 73% of eligible households having redeemed theirs as of October 2024. He encouraged further participation, reminding residents that the vouchers are valid until December 2027.

The event also saw DPM Heng and other participants, including Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu, join a tree-planting ceremony at NUS, contributing to the university’s goal of planting 100,000 trees by 2030 in support of the OneMillionTrees movement.
