Mega Millions Player Wins $1.7 Billion Jackpot

Historic Win in California After 30 Draws Without a Winner

LOS ANGELES – A life-changing moment unfolded for a Mega Millions lottery player in Cottonwood, California, on December 28. The lucky ticket holder secured an astonishing $1.3 billion (S$1.7 billion) prize during the December 27 draw, marking the fifth-largest jackpot in the lottery’s history.

The winning ticket, sold about 300 kilometers north of San Francisco, matched all six numbers: 3, 7, 37, 49, 55, and the gold Mega Ball 6.

“This is an extraordinary holiday gift and an unforgettable moment for the winner,” said Joshua Johnston, lead director for the Mega Millions Consortium.

The jackpot swelled to $1.269 billion after 30 consecutive draws without a winner, underscoring the astronomical odds of 1 in 302,575,350.

The largest US lottery prize to date was a $2.04 billion jackpot won by a single California ticket holder in November 2022.
