Suspect Injures Officers with Stun Device, Faces 13 Charges Including Drug Possession
SINGAPORE — In a shocking incident on Sunday, Muhammed Firdaus Amir Musa, 38, allegedly attacked two Traffic Police officers using a stun device while attempting to flee after being stopped for a traffic violation. The suspect, who faces 13 charges, including voluntarily causing hurt and drug trafficking, was arrested after a tense struggle.

The incident occurred at 2:50 AM when the officers observed a speeding car on Victoria Street. Upon signaling for the vehicle to stop, the driver complied but remained in the second lane, obstructing traffic. When the officers requested his identification, he only provided his NRIC. After being instructed to move his car, the suspect suddenly fled on foot, carrying a suspicious object.

During the pursuit, the officers discovered that the suspect was wielding a samurai sword and later, a stun device. The suspect allegedly used the stun device on Staff Sergeant Khairulanwar Abd Kahar, 32, striking him repeatedly, leaving him with back injuries and numbness. Another officer, Sergeant Muhammad Afiq Yahya, 29, also sustained injuries but was able to continue the chase. Despite their injuries, the officers, with help from an off-duty SCDF national serviceman, Private Mohammed Akbar, subdued and arrested the man.

Weapons seized from the suspect included two knuckle dusters, a samurai sword, and the stun device, which resembled a flashlight. Additionally, controlled drugs such as 236g of methamphetamine, 11g of heroin, and Ecstasy were recovered. The suspect reportedly purchased the stun device online months prior but did not explain its intended use.

The attack has prompted strong condemnation from the police. Assistant Commissioner of Police Jeremy Ang emphasized that violence against officers would not be tolerated, stressing that such acts would be met with severe consequences.

Muhammed Firdaus faces multiple serious charges, including drug possession and possession of prohibited weapons. The case will be further investigated, with the suspect expected to face a lengthy jail term if convicted.

Public Spiritedness Award: Private Mohammed Akbar was honored with the Public Spiritedness Award for his bravery in assisting the officers during the attack.

This case underscores growing concerns over the availability of prohibited items like stun devices on e-commerce platforms, with companies like Lazada and Carousell vowing to crack down on such listings.
