The visionary behind a Singaporean food charity that aided over 144,000 lives passes away at 53, leaving a profound impact on the community.
A Life Dedicated to Giving
Mr. Nizar Mohamed Shariff, affectionately known as “Big Bear,” founded Free Food For All (FFFA) in 2014 to combat hunger and provide nutritious meals to those in need. Over the years, the charity has reached more than 144,000 beneficiaries.
Despite facing personal health struggles, including diabetes and kidney failure, Mr. Nizar remained committed to his mission. His son, Shaik Mohamed Ammar, described FFFA as his father’s “fifth child,” reflecting his unwavering dedication.
A Visionary Leader
FFFA’s initiatives went beyond providing meals. They fostered inclusivity, social equality, and environmental sustainability.
Mr. Nizar often funded the charity himself in its early days, distributing food at Housing Board blocks and mosques.
He extended his efforts internationally, sending aid to Kenya, Yemen, and Gaza, even while bedridden.
Tributes from the Community
Mr. Nizar’s passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes:
Jason Cai, a close friend, remembered him as a “visionary who united people and inspired hope.”
Former MP Amrin Amin highlighted his impactful efforts, including providing 3,000 liters of water to Gaza days before his death.
Homecare service SG Assist praised his quick response and generosity in aiding beneficiaries.
Continuing His Legacy
At just 21, Mr. Ammar has taken the reins as head of operations at FFFA, determined to honor his father’s last wish of continuing the charity’s work.
