Humanity Demands Intervention in Gaza; Aid Must Be Allowed, Says Halimah

Former president stresses urgency in providing humanitarian aid to Gaza amidst escalating crisis.

Former President Calls for Urgent Action in Gaza
In light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Halimah Yacob, Singapore’s former president, expressed grave concerns about the escalating situation. As the death toll continues to rise and over 1 million Palestinians are displaced, Halimah emphasized that humanity demands urgent intervention.

In a post shared on Facebook, Halimah described the situation in Gaza as catastrophic, noting that more than 8,000 people have already been killed, including over 3,000 children. Despite being told to move south for safety, many Palestinians have been unable to escape the bombardment and destruction. Access to basic necessities like food, water, and medicine is severely restricted, contributing to the mounting suffering of civilians.

Halima stressed the necessity of allowing humanitarian aid to reach the region in order to alleviate the pain and suffering of the innocent civilians. The blockade imposed by Israel, in response to the Hamas attacks on October 7, has left the population of Gaza, which numbers around 2.3 million, facing dire conditions.

Madam Halimah also reiterated Singapore’s support for a UN resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian truce and civilian protection. Singapore voted in favor of the resolution during a UN General Assembly emergency session, which was backed by 121 countries. However, Halimah pointed out that the resolution did not address Hamas’ role in the attacks or recognize Israel’s right to defend itself. She expressed deep sympathy for the innocent civilians, particularly children, affected by the ongoing conflict.

This urgent call highlights the continued need for international support and humanitarian intervention in Gaza, as the world watches the ongoing crisis unfold.
