Kenneth Luah’s quick response and CPR training helped save a young girl’s life at Village Hotel Sentosa.
Kenneth Luah, a duty manager at Village Hotel Sentosa, was among 267 hotel employees honored at the Singapore Hotel Association’s annual Hotel Security Awards on October 23, 2024, for his bravery and quick thinking during a choking incident.
Details of the Incident:
Choking Emergency: In April 2024, Kenneth responded to an urgent call when a girl, no older than 11, began choking at the hotel’s restaurant. The girl’s face and lips turned purple as she struggled to breathe.
Life-saving Actions: Kenneth rushed to the scene, where her parents were frantically trying to help her. Using his CPR training, he performed chest compressions and the Heimlich maneuver until paramedics arrived. His efforts helped save the girl’s life, despite the intense pressure of the situation.
Award Recognition: Kenneth was presented with the Special Mention Award for his bravery and vigilance. Minister of State for Home Affairs Sun Xueling praised the awardees for going above and beyond their duties to ensure safety and security in the hotel industry.
Other Notable Awardees:
Jiang Liyan (Hotel Grand Pacific): Liyan, a housekeeping room attendant, received the Honesty Special Mention Award after finding and returning a large sum of money totaling $10,023.70. The money had been left behind by a guest.
Azhar Hamid (ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove): Azhar’s vigilance in spotting suspicious activity helped prevent a potential security breach at his hotel.
