New poll reveals Vice-President’s growing advantage over Trump
WASHINGTON – Democratic US Vice-President Kamala Harris has made significant gains against Republican Donald Trump in six of seven key swing states, according to a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll released on July 30. The survey highlights a shift in voter sentiment following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.
Swing State Performance
The poll, conducted online between July 24 and 28, shows Harris leading Trump in:
Michigan: 11 percentage points ahead
Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada: 2-point advantage
However, Trump maintains a 4-point lead in Pennsylvania and a 2-point lead in North Carolina. In Georgia, the two candidates are tied.
Comparison to Previous Polls
This marks a stark improvement for Harris compared to Trump’s earlier leads over Biden. In a similar poll from July 1 to 5, Trump held the upper hand in five of these states, including:
Arizona (+3 points)
Georgia (+1 point)
Nevada (+3 points)
North Carolina (+3 points)
Pennsylvania (+7 points)
Biden led in Michigan by 5 points and in Wisconsin by 3 points.
Wisconsin Exception
Wisconsin is the only swing state where Trump has closed the gap against Harris compared to his earlier performance against Biden.
Polling Details
The July 30 poll surveyed registered voters and has margins of error ranging from 3 to 5 percentage points, depending on the state. Michigan showed the largest margin of error at 4 points, while Nevada had a 5-point margin.
Harris’s growing momentum, particularly in critical states like Michigan and Arizona, underscores the shifting dynamics of the 2024 race as she works to solidify her standing among swing-state voters.
