As Harris Climbs in Polls, Trump Intensifies His Attacks in the Run-Up to Election
Vice President Kamala Harris is making significant strides in her bid for the presidency, with polls showing her narrowing the gap with former President Donald Trump in critical battleground states. On July 25, 2024, she took her campaign to the American Federation of Teachers in Houston, emphasizing workers’ rights, affordable healthcare, and education, while denouncing Republicans for blocking gun safety measures.
Recent opinion polls, including a Reuters/Ipsos survey, indicate that Harris is now in a tight race with Trump, with both candidates drawing near-equal support. In key battleground states like Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, Harris is gaining momentum, with Trump’s lead shrinking to the point where the two are almost neck and neck in Wisconsin.
While Trump continues to maintain a slight lead nationwide, Harris’s rise has shaken up the presidential race. Her recent campaign activities, including a Zoom call with over 100,000 predominantly white women, have helped galvanize support. She has also launched a new TikTok account, quickly amassing over 500,000 followers, to engage with younger voters.
Trump, however, has not held back from attacking Harris, describing her as a “radical left Marxist” and accusing her of being unfit for the presidency. His remarks have been met with backlash, as more than 40 former U.S. Justice Department officials endorsed Harris, calling Trump a threat to democracy and the rule of law.
Harris has also received significant endorsements, including from former President Barack Obama, who plans to formally back her as the Democratic candidate. As the race heats up, all eyes will be on Harris’s choice for vice-presidential running mate and how the candidates will clash in debates leading up to the election.
