Palestinian Group Assures Hostages Will Be Freed as Agreed, Despite Tensions Over Aid and Violations
Hamas has reaffirmed its commitment to the terms of the ceasefire deal with Israel, confirming it will continue releasing Israeli hostages as agreed upon in the ongoing Gaza negotiations. The announcement came after talks in Cairo, with Egyptian and Qatari mediators claiming they had successfully addressed key issues impeding the agreement’s full implementation.
Though no immediate reaction from Israel has been reported, mediators from Egypt and Qatar stated that both parties were now on track to uphold the deal. Tensions had escalated earlier when Israel warned the ceasefire would come to an end if Hamas failed to return hostages by Saturday. Hamas, however, had previously delayed further releases, citing what it described as Israeli breaches of the agreement.
Hamas accused Israel of failing to allow the agreed delivery of critical humanitarian aid, including tents and shelters, a claim that Israel denied. Following these developments, former US President Donald Trump suggested that Israel should consider abandoning the deal entirely unless all hostages were released by the weekend.
