French Cheese Product Fruitiere des Jarrons’ Mont d’Or Recalled Due to Contamination Fears: SFA

Potential bacterium contamination could lead to gastroenteritis or diarrhoea

A recall has been issued for the French cheese product Fruitiere des Jarrons’ Mont d’Or after it was found to be potentially contaminated with a food-borne bacterium that can cause diarrhoea. The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) confirmed that the recall is ongoing, following a similar action taken by a supplier in France. The affected batch, with a production date of September 10, 2024, was sold by Cheese Club Singapore.

The bacterium in question can lead to gastroenteritis, with symptoms like fever, abdominal pain, and in severe cases, bloody diarrhoea, especially in children. This bacterium can multiply even at refrigerator temperatures, making low levels of contamination particularly dangerous. The primary sources of the infection include raw or undercooked pork, dairy products, and contaminated plants, seafood, and drinking water.

Consumers who have purchased this batch of cheese and are concerned about their health should seek medical advice. The recall serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and the potential risks associated with contaminated dairy products.
