No Injuries Reported as SCDF Evacuates Nearby Residents
A fire broke out on October 20, 2024, in an HDB flat at Block 2A Boon Tiong Road near Tiong Bahru, likely due to an electrical fault. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted at around 1:30 pm when black smoke was seen emerging from the unit on the 10th floor. Upon arrival, firefighters extinguished the blaze, which was confined to a room. Fortunately, no one was inside the unit at the time of the incident.
As a precaution, approximately 20 residents from surrounding units were evacuated, but no injuries were reported. Preliminary investigations pointed to an electrical fault as the likely cause of the fire. SCDF reminded the public to avoid overloading power sockets, switch off electrical appliances when not in use, and regularly inspect electrical wires for damage.
In 2023, electrical fires accounted for a significant portion of the 1,954 total fires in Singapore, underlining the importance of fire safety precautions.
