Dutch Firm Opens Vertical Farm in Changi, Plans to Supply Greens to Retailers by December

Growy, a Dutch agritech company, has opened a new vertical farm in Changi, Singapore, producing fresh greens and herbs. The company aims to expand its market reach, with plans to supply supermarkets by December.

Growy, operating under its Chef’s Farm brand, has established a fully automated indoor farm in the Changi Logistics Centre. This facility is expected to reach full production capacity of 500 tonnes of leafy greens per year by mid-2025. Currently, the farm supplies a range of products like basil, parsley, amaranth, kale, and microgreens to over 40 hotels and restaurants across Singapore.

The farm spans 8,000m², with automated systems that enhance efficiency, reducing labor costs and energy consumption. The company utilizes climate-controlled zones tailored to specific plant needs, minimizing energy use. Additionally, Growy is committed to sustainability, utilizing reclaimed water to cool the facility and reduce overall water consumption.

While the vertical farming sector in Singapore has faced challenges, with some farms closing or struggling financially, Growy’s more efficient approach aims to ensure profitability. The company also plans to expand its operations globally, with future farms in Europe, North America, and Asia.
