Drones, Robots, and AI: Singapore’s High-Tech Approach to Facilities Management

Singapore is embracing advanced technologies to revolutionize building maintenance, enhancing efficiency and safety across its iconic facilities.

Singapore’s facilities management industry is increasingly leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as drones, artificial intelligence (AI), and robots to improve building maintenance and ensure safety. A prime example is the Singapore Sports Hub, where C&W Services has introduced drones for building facade inspections, significantly reducing the time required to complete inspections.

Previously, the task of inspecting the National Stadium’s facade took two weeks with rope access specialists, but now, using drones and AI, the process takes just three days. Drones capture thousands of images of the entire building, while AI analyzes the data to identify issues such as rust and peeling sealants. This not only speeds up inspections but also increases the accuracy, enabling facilities managers to address issues with precision.

Beyond efficiency, the use of AI and drones has allowed staff like Mr. Chua Meng Koon, a drone pilot at C&W Services, to move beyond administrative roles, adding value by contributing directly to the inspections. This integration of advanced technology is not only improving productivity but also making dangerous tasks safer by reducing the need for workers to perform high-risk activities such as working at great heights.

The focus on technology-driven solutions, like AI-powered image analysis and 3D mapping, is shaping the future of facilities management, enabling Singapore to meet the growing demands of maintenance while ensuring sustainability and safety in its high-traffic venues.
