Fire on rooftop extinguished quickly, no injuries reported
A Christmas tree on the rooftop of Design Orchard mall in Singapore caught fire on the evening of November 23, 2024. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident at 9:30 PM. Firefighters arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire by 9:45 PM using two hose reels.
No injuries were reported, and no one required hospitalization. A busker, Jonathan Tan, who was performing outside the nearby Mandarin Gallery, witnessed the fire and saw a person trying to put it out with an extinguisher before the SCDF arrived. Tan expressed concern as the fire seemed to grow larger despite the initial efforts.
Videos posted by Tan show thick smoke and flames lighting up the night sky. The SCDF is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
A spokesperson for Design Orchard confirmed the incident and stated that both the contractor and their partner, Ferrero Rocher, were contacted immediately. This incident is not the first of its kind, as a similar fire occurred in 2015 outside Knightsbridge mall due to an electrical source.
