Car Crashes Through Parapet Wall at Bukit Merah Multi-Storey Carpark

A dramatic accident left a car precariously hanging from the edge of a multi-storey carpark in Bukit Merah, Singapore.

SINGAPORE – A red Volkswagen Beetle crashed through a parapet wall at a multi-storey carpark in Bukit Merah, leaving the vehicle hanging four storeys above the ground. The incident occurred on Wednesday, around 5:45 PM, at Block 119 Bukit Merah Central.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the scene and assessed the driver for minor injuries, but he declined medical treatment and chose not to be taken to the hospital. The driver, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that the accident occurred while he was descending from the fifth storey to the fourth storey of the carpark.

At the scene, the car’s front wheels and part of the bonnet were visibly hanging over the edge of the carpark, with its body having crashed through a wall and railings on the fourth storey. The loud bang from the crash caught the attention of numerous onlookers from a nearby coffee shop.

The Tanjong Pagar Town Council, which manages the area, confirmed that it is working with the Housing and Development Board (HDB) to address the damage. A spokesperson for the council shared that the HDB building engineer had inspected the damage and determined that the parapet wall and crash barrier were locally damaged, while the reinforced concrete column showed only minor damage. Fortunately, the structural integrity of the entire carpark remains unaffected.

The affected area has been cordoned off for safety, and debris has been cleared. Plans to repair the wall are underway.
