Body of Missing Kayaker Found Near Sentosa

The woman went missing during a kayaking expedition on Sunday, and her body was recovered after an intensive search.

SINGAPORE – The body of a 33-year-old woman who went missing during a kayaking expedition off Sentosa has been found by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). Her body was discovered at around 3pm on Tuesday in the waters between Sentosa and Palau Tekukor, a patch known as the Buran Channel, which is notoriously difficult for kayakers.

The woman had been part of a group of four on a kayaking trip on Sunday morning. During the expedition, one of her companions’ kayaks capsized, and she attempted to rescue him. Unfortunately, both kayaks were swept under the strong currents, and the woman capsized herself. While her companion was later rescued by a passing boat, the woman was reported missing.

The incident triggered a search-and-rescue mission involving SCDF, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), and a team of divers, rescue vessels, and patrol crafts. The MPA also issued a navigation broadcast urging ships in the area to report any sightings.

Preliminary investigations have ruled out foul play, though authorities continue to look into the incident. According to Clarence Chua, founder of Ninja Kayakers Foilers, the Buran Channel is a challenging area even for seasoned kayakers, often referred to as a “washing machine” due to its strong and unpredictable currents.
