Beaver moon: Catch last supermoon of 2024 in Singapore skies on Nov 15

The Beaver Moon marks the final supermoon of the year in Singapore, offering a brighter, larger view of the Moon.

SINGAPORE – On Nov 15, stargazers in Singapore will witness the final supermoon of 2024, known as the Beaver Moon. This full moon will be the fourth and last supermoon for the year, following the Hunter’s Moon in October. The Beaver Moon, which appears closer and brighter than usual due to its proximity to Earth, will be the last supermoon visible in Singapore until October 2025.

The name “Beaver Moon” has historical roots, with Native American and early European settler traditions associating full moons with seasonal changes. November’s full moon was named after the increased activity of beavers preparing for winter, particularly in building dams and storing food.

The Beaver Moon will come as close as 360,000 kilometers to Earth, compared to the average distance of 384,400 kilometers, making it appear significantly larger and brighter. The supermoon phenomenon occurs as part of the Moon’s regular orbit but still provides a spectacular visual treat.

For optimal viewing, the Beaver Moon will rise around 6:45 pm on Nov 15 and reach its ideal height just after 7 pm. To catch the best view, seek an open area with an unobstructed line of sight to the horizon, keeping in mind that weather conditions may impact visibility.
