Company warns customers about scammers impersonating staff to cheat people of money
Anywheel, a shared bicycle operator in Singapore, has issued a warning about scammers posing as its staff to cheat people of money. The scammers allegedly approached individuals along Orchard Road and convinced them to pay between $30 and $50 for a non-existent monthly subscription to Anywheel’s service. The victims reported paying cash or via PayNow and even being shown a Nets machine by the scammers.
The incident occurred when an Anywheel worker, who was re-arranging bicycles along Orchard Road, was approached by several people claiming to have been scammed by individuals wearing white tops with a green Anywheel logo. The worker clarified that the company’s official uniform is green with a white logo.
Anywheel immediately issued a clarification on its social media accounts, emphasizing that it does not sell subscription plans through on-site agents. The company confirmed that the subscriptions are available only through its official app.
The company has filed a police report and informed the Land Transport Authority about the situation. The scammers are believed to be foreigners, and the incident is suspected to have occurred over the weekend.
Anywheel encourages customers to reach out with any concerns and reiterated that all payments for subscriptions should be made via the official app.
