NKF to Open Five New Dialysis Centres by 2025 to Meet Rising Demand

National Kidney Foundation plans expansion in response to increasing kidney failure cases in Singapore

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) is set to open five new dialysis centres by 2025 to address the growing demand for dialysis services in Singapore. With current facilities operating at nearly full capacity, NKF aims to expand its network to accommodate the increasing number of kidney failure patients.

NKF’s chief executive, Tim Oei, shared that the foundation receives over 100 new dialysis applications every month, doubling the number from five years ago. Six new patients are diagnosed with kidney failure daily, which is contributing to the escalating demand. To address this, NKF will open its first new centre at Sky Vista @ Bukit Batok in January 2024, followed by another centre at Sengkang Community Hospital by May 2024. By 2025, three more centres will open in Bidadari, Fernvale (Sengkang), and Punggol, increasing the total number of NKF dialysis centres to 45.

NKF is also focusing on increasing awareness of peritoneal dialysis, a home-based treatment option, to complement haemodialysis. With rising kidney failure rates linked to diabetes and high blood pressure, NKF’s expansion and initiatives are essential to ensuring that more patients can access life-saving dialysis treatments.
