A family’s celebration turns to chaos as their Yishun home catches fire during their daughter’s wedding day. This incident marks one of three fires within 18 hours.
Yishun Family’s Wedding Day Interrupted by Fire, Part of a Series of Blazes
In a devastating turn of events, a family in Yishun had to leave their daughter’s wedding celebration early when they learned that their flat had caught fire. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the fire at Block 139 Yishun Ring Road at about **3:45 p.m. on Oct 29. Firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze, which had started in the living room of a seventh-floor flat.
The family had left their home early in the morning to prepare for their daughter’s wedding festivities. After completing the morning ceremonies, they were notified around 4 p.m. by a neighbor and then by the police, who informed them of the fire. The couple, along with their son, rushed back home to find that the blaze had already been contained to the living room, though the room’s ceiling and walls were left charred. The fire was quickly extinguished with a water jet, and no injuries were reported.
The flat’s owner, the father of the bride, speculated that the fire was caused by candles left burning at the family’s altar. Although candles are usually safe, he expressed uncertainty over the incident but was relieved that no one was injured.
This fire was just the first of three incidents in an 18-hour period. Later that evening, at 5:30 p.m., a fire broke out at 25A Chai Chee Road. Though the blaze was swiftly dealt with before the SCDF arrived, it added to the sequence of fires. The following morning, another fire was reported at Block 415 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, where thick smoke poured from a fourth-floor window at around 9:15 a.m.. Fortunately, the flat was empty when firefighters arrived, and the fire was soon extinguished. Around 60 residents were evacuated during this incident.
Thankfully, none of the three fires resulted in injuries, and the causes of each fire are currently under investigation. The SCDF has assured that the situation has been handled promptly and that all necessary investigations are being carried out.
