Police Crack Down on Unlawful Gambling
In a recent series of operations, Singaporean police are investigating 126 individuals suspected of being involved in illegal horse betting activities. The group of suspects, comprising 120 men and 6 women, aged between 20 and 87, were apprehended following islandwide raids carried out from October 14 to 28, 2024.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), together with seven police land divisions, conducted operations at 21 locations across Singapore. During these raids, authorities seized over $69,000 in cash, mobile phones, and various horse betting paraphernalia.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the individuals were participating in illegal gambling activities in different capacities, including as bookmakers, runners, and punters. The police emphasized that investigations are ongoing, and further action will be taken as necessary.

Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, individuals caught gambling with illegal services face stringent penalties. Offenders could be fined up to $10,000, face up to six months in prison, or be subjected to both punishments.

This operation underscores the police’s commitment to combatting illegal gambling activities and ensuring compliance with the Gambling Control Act to maintain public order and safety.
