Ten suspects have been arrested for a series of thefts in retail outlets, stealing clothing worth thousands
A String of Thefts Leads to Arrests
On Monday, 10 individuals—seven men and three women—were arrested in connection with a series of shop thefts in the popular shopping areas of Orchard Road and HarbourFront Walk. The suspects, aged between 20 and 32, are accused of stealing more than 90 pieces of clothing, valued at approximately $6,800.
1. Police Investigation Unveils Syndicated Theft
The investigation began after authorities were alerted to an attempted theft in Orchard Road on October 16. Through CCTV footage and extensive ground inquiries, officers from the Tanglin and Clementi police divisions were able to identify the suspects. Following the investigation, the suspects were arrested during a police operation conducted two weeks later.
2. Items Stolen in Thefts
Among the recovered stolen items, authorities found Uniqlo shirts and various women’s undergarments. The suspects were arrested for syndicated theft, which included four additional shop theft cases.
3. Charges and Legal Consequences
Five of the men, along with the three women, are set to be charged in court on Wednesday. They face charges of theft in dwelling with common intention and attempting to commit theft. If convicted, the suspects could face imprisonment of up to seven years and a possible fine.
4. Retailers Urged to Adopt Preventive Measures
The police have urged retailers to enhance security measures to prevent such incidents. Recommendations include installing CCTV cameras with recording systems, displaying warning posters, and securing high-value items in locked showcases or near cashier counters. Additionally, the police suggest employing security personnel and ensuring that staff have clear visibility of the store’s product displays.
As the investigation continues, the authorities remain vigilant and call on the public to report any suspicious activities in retail spaces.
