New bus routes and extensions aim to improve connectivity for Tengah residents.
SINGAPORE – Tengah residents will benefit from enhanced public transport connectivity as the authorities introduce new bus services and extend existing routes. The new bus service 870 will be launched on Nov 26, providing residents with direct access to amenities in Jurong East and the Bukit Batok market at Block 156.
In addition, services 870 and 992 will be extended in December to include two new bus stops – one near Plantation Village and the other outside Plantation Grange. These improvements are designed to offer added convenience for residents in various precincts within Tengah.
The changes come after feedback from residents who expressed concerns about the long walk to their nearest bus stops, with some being over 30 minutes away. Tengah is a developing district with several Build-To-Order (BTO) projects, and the new bus services aim to alleviate accessibility issues for residents, especially those living in areas like Plantation Grange.
Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Transport, highlighted that these measures are part of ongoing efforts to improve public transport infrastructure for Tengah’s residents, especially with the construction of the Jurong Region MRT line (JRL). The Tengah Plantation MRT station is scheduled for completion by 2028, while the Tengah MRT station will be ready by 2027.
Residents have welcomed the new services, with some expressing how much the added convenience will improve their daily lives. Ken Quek, a Plantation Grange resident, noted that the new bus stop right by his estate will reduce his walking distance, while Eric Chua is excited about the added convenience for his commute to Clementi.
However, some residents raised concerns, like Chan Yuke Man, who felt the new services would increase travel time for his daughter’s school journey. Despite this, many agreed that the changes will make commuting easier for others, particularly for elderly residents.
These improvements are set to be a key part of Tengah’s evolving public transport system, providing better access to various amenities in Jurong East and Bukit Batok, while offering an alternative to private transport for residents.
