Tengah to Get New Bus Service and Route Extensions Following Resident Complaints

New bus service 870 and two route extensions will improve connectivity for Tengah residents.

SINGAPORE – Tengah residents will soon benefit from improved connectivity as authorities respond to complaints about limited public transport options. Starting from Nov 26, 2024, a new bus service, Service 870, will connect residents to Jurong East and Bukit Batok, providing better access to amenities in these areas. This new service will stop at an existing bus stop at Block 111, Plantation Crescent.

Additionally, Services 870 and 992 will undergo route extensions in December. These will include two new bus stops: one directly opposite Plantation Village and another outside Plantation Grange, making it more convenient for residents in various parts of Tengah to access public transport.

These improvements come after the Jurong Region MRT line (JRL) construction works, which are currently underway. The line is expected to open in three stages from 2027 to 2029, with the future Tengah Plantation MRT station slated for completion by 2028 and Tengah MRT station by 2027.

The Plantation district in Tengah, which will consist of 5,000 new homes in five Build-To-Order (BTO) projects, has been the site of numerous residential complaints due to the long walk to the nearest bus stops. The new bus services and route extensions are set to improve access, especially for residents like Ken Quek, who is delighted that the new stop will be located near his estate, reducing his walking distance to the bus stop. Similarly, Eric Chua welcomed the convenience of the new service, which will allow him to commute directly to Jurong East for work.

However, some residents have voiced concerns. Chan Yuke Man, for instance, believes the new bus service will add time to his daughter’s commute to school. Despite this, the extended routes will undoubtedly make daily commutes safer and more convenient for many residents, including elderly residents like Chan Si Hui’s parents.
