Milestone anniversary marked by advancements in training, innovation, and community support.
SBS Transit, Singapore’s leading public transport operator, celebrated its 50th anniversary with plans to enhance training, promote innovation, and give back to the community. At a dinner event held at Fairmont Singapore, Chairman Bob Tan announced the establishment of a new Bus Captain Training and Certification Centre at Ulu Pandan Bus Depot, set to open in Q2 2024.
This first-of-its-kind facility will train and license Class 4A drivers, enhancing road safety and service excellence. The initiative aligns with efforts to standardize training across the industry, with support from the Singapore Bus Academy and the Land Transport Authority.
Promoting Innovation
SBS Transit also signed an agreement with Enterprise Singapore to establish the SBS Transit Mobility Innovation Centre. Slated to open in late 2024, the center will serve as a hub for collaboration among government agencies, academia, and industry experts, with a focus on inclusivity in public transport. The company has pledged $5 million over two years to support this endeavor.
Acting Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat, guest of honor at the event, emphasized the importance of balancing innovation with the core mission of providing reliable and cost-efficient transport services.
Giving Back to the Community
In line with its commitment to corporate social responsibility, SBS Transit announced a $750,000 donation to the Community Chest over three years, supporting individuals with disabilities and mental illnesses. The company has already employed 26 persons with disabilities in frontline roles and plans to expand opportunities in bus and rail maintenance.
Additionally, SBS Transit is partnering with the Singapore Land Authority to expand barrier-free routes and improve accessibility information for commuters.
These initiatives highlight SBS Transit’s dedication to advancing Singapore’s transport network while supporting the broader community.
