Pelosi Backed Lawmaker Urging Biden to Quit Presidential Race, White House Source Says

Former Speaker Pelosi Supports Adam Schiff’s Call for Biden to Step Aside in 2024 Election

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has privately expressed concerns to President Joe Biden about his chances in the upcoming presidential race. According to a top White House source, Pelosi, a key figure in the Democratic Party, believes Biden cannot win the November 5 election and has endorsed California lawmaker Adam Schiff’s call for Biden to step aside.

Schiff’s comments, made public on July 17, marked the first such statement from a prominent Democrat following the July 13 assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Schiff voiced his “serious concerns” about Biden’s ability to defeat Trump in the general election. Despite the attempted assassination, which many thought might temporarily slow such calls, Pelosi’s endorsement signals a growing disillusionment within the Democratic Party’s leadership about Biden’s electability.

A source close to Pelosi denied that Schiff’s remarks were made with her prior approval, though the White House insider claims Pelosi is deeply involved in the conversation around Biden’s future. Pelosi is said to be convinced that public sentiment is overwhelmingly against the current president and believes it would be impossible for him to change this trajectory.

The Biden campaign, however, remains adamant that the president will continue to run. Deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks emphasized on July 18 that there are no plans to replace Biden, and that the president is committed to his decision to run for re-election.

Calls for Biden to step aside have been voiced by some Democratic lawmakers, especially after his controversial debate performance raised concerns over his age and fitness for office. Democratic aides suggest that Biden’s unpopularity among voters in key swing districts could endanger the party’s chances in the House of Representatives, where Republicans currently hold a narrow majority.

Despite growing concerns within the party, some Democrats continue to hold out hope for a possible victory, although the road to success is seen as difficult, especially if Vice President Kamala Harris were to take over as the nominee.
