Harris Ties Trump in Wisconsin and Surpasses Biden in Key Battleground States
Recent polling data reveals that US Vice-President Kamala Harris is performing better than President Joe Biden in key battleground states that are likely to determine the outcome of the November 2024 election. According to an Emerson College/The Hill poll released on July 25, Harris has narrowed the gap with Republican candidate Donald Trump, even tying him at 47% in Wisconsin, a critical state in the upcoming election.
The Emerson poll, conducted from July 22 to July 23, showed Trump leading in four crucial states: Arizona (49% to 44%), Georgia (48% to 46%), Michigan (46% to 45%), and Pennsylvania (48% to 46%). However, in Wisconsin, Harris was on equal footing with Trump, which represents a significant improvement over Biden’s performance in these battleground areas.
In comparison to Biden, Harris surpassed his previous polling numbers in all five states included in the Emerson survey. Following Biden’s decision to drop out of the race on July 21 and endorse Harris, the Vice President took to the campaign trail, showing greater appeal to voters in these states.
Additionally, a national poll conducted by The New York Times/Siena College, released on July 25, showed Harris trailing Trump by just two percentage points (48% to 46%), whereas Biden had previously trailed by eight points (49% to 41%) in the same poll three weeks earlier. The poll had a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points.
Meanwhile, a Reuters/Ipsos national poll from July 23 showed Harris leading Trump by 2 percentage points (44% to 42%), within the 3-percentage-point margin of error. While national polls provide valuable insights, it is the performance in battleground states that will likely play a decisive role in the 2024 election.
