Kamala Harris Highlights Strong Foreign Policy Record Ahead of 2024 Campaign

A memo released by Harris’ office outlines her leadership in global matters, countering Republican criticisms and emphasizing her international diplomacy.

In a strategic move to bolster Kamala Harris’ image as a foreign policy expert, her office released a 10-page memo on July 25. This document was sent to national security professionals following her meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. The memo emphasizes her role in restoring U.S. leadership globally and highlights her work alongside President Joe Biden on key international issues, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the attack on Israel by Hamas in October 2023.

Despite her early career being focused on domestic issues, Harris has emerged as a significant figure in global diplomacy, meeting over 150 world leaders and participating in critical policy decisions. The memo points out her involvement in high-stakes situations such as the U.S. response to Iran’s missile strikes on Israel and her efforts to balance the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The memo comes as part of an effort to counter criticisms from Republicans, particularly from former President Donald Trump, who has disparaged her foreign policy stance. In contrast, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and several former senior officials have praised Harris as a leading voice in foreign policy, highlighting her strategic approach and deep involvement in international matters.

Trump, meanwhile, has criticized Harris’ approach to Israel, calling her remarks on Gaza “disrespectful” and questioning how Jewish voters could support her. Harris’ camp, however, remains focused on amplifying her diplomatic work as a cornerstone of her campaign, especially as she positions herself as a formidable candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
