A fatal accident on the Kranji Expressway results in the death of a motorcyclist and the arrest of a lorry driver.
A tragic accident occurred on the Kranji Expressway (KJE) on the morning of October 23, 2024, when a 52-year-old motorcyclist was killed after being struck by a lorry. The incident took place just before the Senja Road exit, towards the Pan Island Expressway (PIE), at around 7:00 AM.
The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force responded to the scene, where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead by paramedics. The 24-year-old male lorry driver was arrested for careless driving causing death.
A video circulating on social media shows motorcyclists weaving between the lanes of the expressway. The fatal sequence began when the lorry, traveling in the first lane, attempted to change lanes and collided with the victim’s motorcycle. This caused the motorcyclist to lose control and fall into the path of a trailer traveling in the second lane.
The police are currently conducting an investigation into the incident. This tragedy highlights the ongoing issue of road safety, especially for motorcyclists, as recent statistics revealed that in 2023, motorcyclist and pillion rider fatalities accounted for half of all road accident deaths, with 68 lives lost.
