Dozens Evacuated, One Taken to Hospital After Fire Breaks Out in Woodlands Condo Unit

A fire in an executive condominium unit leads to evacuations and hospitalisation due to smoke inhalation.

On October 24, 2024, around 50 people were evacuated and one individual was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out in a unit of an executive condominium in Woodlands. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received an alert at approximately 1:25 PM regarding the blaze at 48 Woodlands Drive 16, in the Forestville development. The fire started in a 10th-floor unit, where no occupants were present at the time.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which had ignited in the household shelter and kitchen area, using a water jet. A video shared on Lianhe Zaobao’s Facebook page showed thick smoke emanating from the unit. As a precaution, SCDF and police evacuated residents from nearby units.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Woodlands Health Campus for further care. Initial investigations by SCDF suggest that the fire was likely caused by an electrical issue in the household shelter. The SCDF emphasized the importance of fire prevention, advising the public to avoid overloading power sockets and to ensure appliances and plugs are certified with the Safety Mark to reduce the risk of electrical fires.
