Motorists Can Book Directly for ERP 2.0 On-Board Unit Installation

Vehicle Owners Now Have More Flexibility in Scheduling Installations

SINGAPORE – Starting November 2024, vehicle owners in Singapore can make appointments directly with authorised workshops to install the new ERP 2.0 on-board unit (OBU), which is part of the satellite-based system replacing the current Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on October 29 that vehicle owners no longer need to wait for official notifications or use the LTA’s portal to book installation appointments. This change is designed to give vehicle owners greater convenience by allowing them to combine the installation with other services, such as regular vehicle servicing.

Convenience for Vehicle Owners
The installation of the OBU, which involves three components—a processing unit, antenna, and touchscreen display—will take between two to four hours, depending on the vehicle’s make and model. No additional documentation is required.

By 2026, all vehicles in Singapore will be required to have the OBU installed. LTA stated that since November 2023, about 150,000 vehicles have already had the OBU fitted, including 90,000 existing vehicles whose owners proactively scheduled appointments with authorised workshops.

Streamlined Process
To cope with the surge in installations, authorised workshops have increased their capacity, and the process has been streamlined. These workshops can now handle around 2,000 installations per day. Vehicle owners can visit LTA’s official OBU information page to find suitable workshops for their vehicle and view their installation options.

While the processing unit placement varies by vehicle, most owners (about 70%) have opted for installation at the front passenger footwell. The touchscreen display is optional, but it is necessary to access all services and adjust notification volumes.

With this update, LTA aims to make the OBU installation process more convenient, ensuring that all Singapore-registered vehicles are equipped by the 2026 deadline.
