US Presidential Election and Southeast Asia’s Youth Discussed at ST Forum

Geopolitics and the changing dynamics of Southeast Asia’s youth to be explored at the upcoming forum in Singapore.

The Straits Times will host a forum on November 12, 2024, to discuss the implications of the US presidential election and the evolving role of youth in Southeast Asia’s political landscape. The forum, part of the Asia Future Summit 2024, will feature Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat in a fireside chat with ST editor Jaime Ho.

Mr. Luhut Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s newly appointed chairman of the National Economic Council, will deliver a special address. The forum will cover key global developments, including the US presidential race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, and its potential impact on global geopolitics, particularly the US-China relations.

A panel moderated by ST’s Japan correspondent, Walter Sim, will examine the consequences of the US election result. The discussion will include experts like Selena Ling, chief economist at OCBC, Professor Chen Dingding from Jinan University, and Blake Berger from the Asia Society Policy Institute.

Another key discussion will focus on Southeast Asia’s youth, exploring how their political engagement and voting power will influence the region’s future. The panel, moderated by ST’s Lim Ai Leen, will feature Dr. Shashi Jayakumar, Tan Hui Yee, and Shannon Teoh.

Around 200 thought leaders and senior representatives from the public and private sectors are expected to attend the event at Andaz Singapore in Bugis, with OCBC and OCBC Premier Banking as the presenting sponsors.
