Akbar 24 Hours Restaurant Suspended for Cockroach Infestation

Tanjong Pagar eatery faces four-week suspension, $800 fine after repeated hygiene violations.

SFA Penalizes Tanjong Pagar Restaurant
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has suspended Akbar 24 Hours Restaurant at 2 Lim Teck Kim Road for four weeks, from November 12 to December 9, following two inspections that uncovered cockroach infestations. The Indian Muslim eatery was also fined $800.

The SFA clarified that establishments accumulating 12 or more demerit points within a year face suspensions of two or four weeks or, in severe cases, license cancellations.

History of Hygiene Issues
This is not the first penalty for Akbar 24 Hours Restaurant. In 2023, it faced a two-week suspension and a $1,000 fine for failing to maintain cleanliness in its premises and chiller, as well as neglecting to register an employee.

Re-certification Requirement
Before reopening, the restaurant’s food handlers and hygiene officer must undergo re-certification for food safety.

Despite its hygiene challenges, the eatery has a 3.8 out of 5 rating on Google from 580 reviews, reflecting mixed customer experiences.
